Samantha DuVall Bechtel, CEO of DuVall Family Restaurant Group, tells What Now San Francisco that the outpost closed several months back to begin building an outdoor garden that accommodates 50 diners, more or less — a response to increasing demand for alfresco dining spurred by the pandemic.

“Over the last 36 years we have established a bit of a cult following with the local community in San Francisco,” she says, adding, “As we continue into the future, we hope to carry on this rich history and legacy and take it into the next chapter — and one of the ways that we intend to do that is with renovations.”

Now that the San Carlos location is reopening, Izzy’s flagship spot at 3345 Steiner Street will temporarily shutter next month for a makeover of its own — focused primarily on restoring the booths and bar — but is slated to reopen during the summer of 2024.

“It’s very important to us that we keep the heart and soul of what made Izzy’s a local staple for such a long time,” Bechtel shares, reassuring patrons that, while the digs are getting an upgrade, popular menu items such as the skirt steak and the New York strip steak aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
