The “Asian-inspired” craft brewery Dokkaebier has recently announced its acquisition of Federation Brewing. In addition to owning the Federation Brewing brand, Dokkaebier will also be taking over its “laid-back neighborhood tasting room and tavern” at 420 3rd Street — near establishments like Halftime bar, the Peruvian restaurant La Furia Chalaca, and the upcoming Hersher’s Pizza and Taproom.

Dokkaebier made the announcement late last week in an Instagram post, writing, “We will continue supporting Federation Brewing’s local partnerships and workforce and take over the Oakland brewery and taproom operations under the name Dokkaebier.”
Sharing some motives behind the move, Dokkaebier cites Federation Brewing’s “mission for inclusiveness” as part of what aligned the two brands — contributing to Dokkaebier’s goal “to bring innovation and much-needed diversity to the craft beer scene by introducing Asian flavors to beer connoisseurs as well as craft beer to the Asian American community.”
They add, “The taproom will stay open as we make some updates to our space” — however the type of updates planned haven’t yet been announced.
Founded in 2020, Dokkaebier has become one of the country’s fastest-growing Asian breweries and is behind over 40 craft beers sold in more than 400 restaurants and stores. According to the San Francisco Business Times, “Under the leadership of a new product strategist, Avery Glasser, the brewing company is aiming to grow its network into thousands of stores by the end of 2023.”
