The Bay Area restaurant media was doleful to report that Nick’s Crispy Tacos, a Russian Hill restaurant staple that had been slinging stuffed-to-the-brim tacos for over 20 years, was shutting down at the end of December 2022.
Excitingly, the eatery’s owner, Howard Shindler, recently announced that the Mexican food restaurant is making a comeback.
Nick’s is planning to join the bar and lounge Rockwell at 3200 Fillmore Street in the Union Street neighborhood — near restaurants like The Good Life Pizza and Wilder, as well as bars such as Balboa Cafe, For The Record, and Jaxson.
Shindler tells What Now San Francisco, “We’re sharing the space with Rockwell. Fortunately, there’s an existing kitchen that we’re going to take over. And then, hopefully, we’ll do the same kind of thing we’ve done for the last 20 years.”
Nick’s menu will be the same as remembered, offering starters like elote and jalapeño poppers, tacos, quesadillas, and burritos, with vegan and vegetarian items. Shindler shares that he is also looking to add brunch options, plus, Rockwell will concoct a few specialty drinks that go along well with Mexican food.
“We’re happy we found this location. I’ve been around here all my life,” Shindler shares.
