AH2 announced the grand reopening of Michelin-rated Horn Barbecue on Friday, April 26th, at its new, permanent location at 464 8th Street, Oakland. Despite a tragic arson event five months ago that devastated the original site on Mandela Parkway, the resilience of the Horn family has propelled them to not only rebuild but also to reinvent.

The reopening marks a significant milestone in Horn Barbecue’s journey and their continued commitment to the community. In addition to the comeback of this establishment, the Horn team is thrilled to launch the Horn Barbecue Shop next month. Positioned right next to the sister concept, Kowbird, this new express outlet will cater to the bustling demand for quick, authentic barbecue experiences.

“Reopening Horn Barbecue is not just about bringing back what was lost but pushing forward to new heights,” said Chef Horn in a statement. “With the Horn Barbecue Shop, we aim to meet the evolving needs of our community, providing top-notch, convenient dining options that don’t compromise on quality.”

Horn Barbecue invites everyone to join in the celebration of resilience and community spirit on reopening day.

“We are blessed to continue serving the Oakland community and the broader Bay Area with our award-winning barbecue. My deepest thanks go to the local leaders and services, including Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, Councilwoman Treva Reid, Councilwoman Carol Fife, City Manager Jestin Johnson, and the dedicated teams at the Oakland Police and Fire Departments for their steadfast support in these challenging times. Additionally, I am immensely grateful for the backing of Southern Smoke, the James Beard Foundation, The Roots Fund, The Lee Initiative, Kingsford, and Prisoner Winery, whose support has been invaluable. I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to every individual who contributed to our GoFundMe campaign. Your generosity has played a crucial role in our recovery and relaunch.”

“The arson that targeted our flagship location was a product of the very environment the city is working to change. This incident did not destroy our spirit; rather, it inspired us to rebuild and continue serving. Understanding that there is always a sacrifice to make in the act of service, we will continue to walk by faith and serve our community with dedication.”

“In light of recent challenges, my commitment to Oakland has never wavered, despite inaccurate reporting and speculation. My family loves the Bay Area, and the tremendous support we have received from the community has been truly heartening. I remain steadfast in my promise to serve and contribute to my community, and to continue empowering our local culinary industry.”
