According to a recent article by SFGATE, Francesco Covucci and Peter Fazio — the restaurateurs behind Barbara Pinseria, the California Fish Market, and Il Casaro Pizzeria — are behind the revival.

“We really wouldn’t want this restaurant to go anywhere,” Covucci shares with the journal, adding, “We were scared another big restaurant chain would come, or turn it into a different cuisine.”

For readers unfamiliar with the concept, the Italian eatery was renowned for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, “as well as for being a hangout for politicians, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and former San Francisco mayors George Moscone and Willie Brown,” SFGATE reports.

“We’ve gotten so many messages of congratulations,” says Covucci — “People were very happy that we decided to keep it North Beach Restaurant and keep the Italian heritage. Even the fact that me and Peter are both Italian-born… they see a lot of similarities with the previous owners and now the new owners.”

North Beach Restaurant is slated to reopen in May. Stay tuned for updates.
