A beer and wine license application is currently pending for Leopold’s at 2400 Polk Street, marking the potential return of a Bay Area restaurant that closed down over two years ago. The relaunch is at the hands of the restaurant’s former chef, Michael Lamina, and Carla Anne Suntjean. The application has been pending since September 26th.

Lamina tells SFGATE, “We are trying to relaunch the restaurant, keeping the same concept,” He shares, “We are still early in the process, but things are in motion.”

The German beerhouse was originally opened by Albert and Rainer Klaus in 2011 but closed down two and a half years ago. On the previous menu were appetizers like vegetable strudel and grilled duck crépinettes, entrees including wiener schnitzel — breaded and fried pork loin with potato-cucumber salad and lingonberry sauce — and pan-fried trout wrapped in pancetta with wilted braising greens, oven-roasted tomatoes, sherry vinaigrette, and fingerling potatoes. Diners could enjoy a classic apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce and whipped cream for dessert, and wash it all down with a lager, pilsner, ale, or weissbier.

An opening date has not yet been announced. What Now San Francisco briefly contacted Lamina, but he was unable to provide further information.
