According to an application uncovered by What Now San Francisco, plans are in place to move the Dominos Pizza at 876 Geary Street to a new location at 728 Geary Street. 728 Geary was previously home to a Pizza Hut, which operated at that space from 1997 until September 2020, where it has remained closed ever since. Considering that Pizza Hut was forced to close over 300 locations across the country last year, the situation was looking dire.

Thankfully the space will not remain vacant for much longer. A new team is hard at work converting the former Pizza Hut into the new location for the 876 Geary Domino’s Pizza. Operating as NFG LLC (Noble Food Group), the franchisee team is lead by Bruce Vandenberg and Justin Ford. One of the largest Domino’s Pizza growth partners, NFG owns and operates over 20 different Domino’s Pizzas across California and Oregon. NFG created a big splash in the pizza world in 2013, when they debuted a new prototype for a Domino’s Pizza Theatre.

San Francisco has surprisingly few Domino’s Pizzas. With over 18,000 locations worldwide, only four of them (this one included) call the Bay Area home. The nearest Domino’s location would be 3.3 miles away at 5200 Geary Street. With 1,290 Square Feet of space, it’s unclear whether this new location will be upgraded to a pizza theatre, though nothing at the moment indicates that this would be the case.

And so the Pizza War continues to rage! Domino’s power appears to be waxing over Pizza Hut’s, though no matter the outcome, the real winners will be us – the hungry customers.
