Those who frequent Polk Gulch and Lower Nob Hill might’ve been familiar with YamaSho, a popular izakaya and bar with private karaoke rooms. The restaurant is permanently closed, but it looks like there are already plans in place to revitalize this space at 1161 Polk St.

Enter Taisho. Under this new name and ownership, the spin-off restaurant will continue to serve Japanese fare and keep the spirit of karaoke alive within its walls. At least, that’s what owner Nick Honda promises for the spot.

We’re optimistic that Honda’s plans for the space don’t veer too far away from its predecessors, though he is playing around with the idea of adding a “fusion” element to the menu. Even so, nothing is set in stone.

In a phone call with What Now San Francisco, Honda said that they are still working through the permitting process, awaiting approvals from the city. He also recently applied for a beer and wine license. That said, there’s no guarantee yet on the future of this establishment.

If everything goes according to plan (our fingers are crossed!), Honda reckons that an opening will happen later this year, probably around fall. In any case, it’s nice to know that the new ownership intends to carry on the torch in terms of what this spot has to offer.
