Lucia’s Craft Sandwich, the Crockett-based sandwich shop that specializes in artisanal sandwiches, recently announced plans to open a second location in Martinez.
Owned by chef Randy Valdez and his wife Faith Harrison, Lucia’s began back in August 2020 after Randy was laid off from his job at the Hotel Shattuck during the height of the pandemic. As parties and events were shut down across the country, so too were the catering companies hired to serve those events. But as one door closed in Randy’s life, another one shortly opened.
Valdez’s newfound free-time provided him with the perfect opportunity to master a food that haunted his imagination for years – the sandwich. Privately, he had been keeping a journal of sandwich recipes he’s invented throughout the past two decades, and once it became clear that it was time to start a restaurant of his own he knew it was time to start looking back at that journal.
Despite only opening a year ago, Lucia’s (named after Randy and Faith’s daughter) has skyrocketed in popularity as customers flocked to Crockett to get a bite of Randy’s hand-crafted sandwich recipes, like smoked trout toast with potatoes and leeks. Now, only a year later and Randy and Faith are preparing to launch their second location.
The new Lucia’s will be opening up in Martinez at 6682 Alhambra Avenue and will feature over 1000 square feet of space, making this space their biggest location yet. Lucia’s second location will replace the Starbucks that previously occupied the space and Randy and Faith have confirmed that they’re gearing up to open early September.
