Founded by Lauren Arnsdorff in 2020, Flour & Branch began as a delivery-only bakery that popped up during the pandemic. For Lauren, inclusivity and empathy are at the core of every venture she takes, including baking.
Falling dangerously ill as a young child, Lauren faced a harrowing onslaught of bullying and exclusion that eventually endowed her with a profound sense of empathy and a desire to include others. Her bakery recalls tender moments spending holidays with her family, baking together and creating lifelong memories. For Lauren, baking is her love language, and Flour & Branch is how she expresses that love to her community.
Now it appears that Flour & Branch is preparing for the next stage in its journey. The young bakery will be moving into its first full-time brick-and-mortar location 493 3rd Street. The space was previously occupied by Picnic on Third, a “culinary café” that changed its menu every day and featured simple components with fresh produce and an impressive array of herbs and spices. No word has been given as to the future of Picnic, though it doesn’t seem likely that it will be returning any time soon.
Flour & Branch, however, is nowhere near peaking. This new location is an ambitious step for the young company, but if the deluge of daily orders they field is any indication, locals are hungry for a premium bakery where they can sit down and enjoy their favorite dessert with a nice coffee or tea. While you wait for the new location to open, consider ordering some snacks right to your door through their website to get a taste of Lauren’s popular baking.
