Dream Bowlz is the newest tenant at The Bayfront Exchange, an up-and-coming community at 2525 Bayfront Blvd. in Hercules. The 921 square-foot retail space is currently being built into a superfood café and wellness shop slated for opening by the end of 2021. Dream Bowlz is a Black-owned family business headed by co-owners Al and Ronell Colquitt.
Raising a family of four, the Colquitts have always been on the go, driving their children to sports tournaments and various extra curriculars. One of their favorite foods to look for wherever they travel is açai bowls, one of the few nourishing and quick meals available in a sea of fast-food options.
This inspired the Colquitts to bring the magic of açai to their hometown of Hercules and thus began selling delicious smoothies and açai bowls at community events and festivals. Naturally, the menu will feature plant-based, dairy-free smoothies and smoothie bowls with a host of good-for-you ingredients such as sea moss, elderberry, proteins, vitamins, and more.
A true family affair, they will also sell Candlez by Joy, a line of soy vegan intention candles created by their eldest daughter Joyal, as well as Jaz’s Jewels, a line of handcrafted gemstone jewelry by their youngest daughter Jazel. Their two oldest sons Jalen and Jabari help out behind the scenes with café operations and marketing.
The Colquitts tell What Now San Francisco, “We are really happy to be joining the community as a small business. It is our dream to come together as a family, while being able to make an impact by serving high-quality food and wellness products to underrepresented and underserved communities of the Bay Area.” If all goes according to plan, they hope to open Dream Bowlz by the end of this year or January 2022 at the latest.
