According to recent announcements, the formerly shuttered Z&Y Peking Duck from the team at Z&Y Restaurant will formally reopen to the public after being closed for three years due to the pandemic. It has recently been posting updates on its Yelp page including new photos of its infamous Peking duck, and is slated to host a grand opening in early 2024, though an official date has not been announced.

Local writer Carlos Eats reported the upcoming reopening in a newsletter on December 29.

On its long-awaited menu, the Z&Y roasted duck will be available to order, sliced and served in the traditional style or elevated with caviar, along with crisp julienned cucumbers and scallions, house-made Hoisin sauce, and delicate flour wraps. Menu dishes are meant to be shared family-style and include a variety of dim sum such as savory potstickers, hearty skewers, crispy egg rolls, and mouth-watering buns, as reported by Carlos Eats.

Z&Y Peking Duck will be located at 606 Jackson Street, near its sister restaurant at 655 Jackson Street. Both restaurants, along with a third installation called Chili House, are helmed by Michelin-renowned executive chef and co-owner Li Jun Han.

Chef Han has served two Chinese presidents and was the former executive chef at the Chinese Consulate-General in San Francisco. With his experience, Chef Han utilizes skillful culinary techniques to showcase compelling Szechuan dishes, which has earned the restaurant a Bib Gourmand Michelin ranking in 2012 and has retained the status every year since, states the Z&Y Restaurant website.

Chef Han’s third concept, Chili House on 726 Clement St., was recently damaged by a fire caused by the apartment housed above the restaurant back in October. Recent reporting states the restaurant plans to reopen soon in the new year, post-renovations.

“We look forward to reopening the restaurant soon and welcoming back our loyal customers and friends,” a representative for the restaurant originally told the San Francisco Chronicle, but did not provide a timeline for the reopening. It’s likely to be a few months out from formally opening doors again.

Customers can stay tuned for Chili House’s reopening on its website, as well as an upcoming grand opening announcement from Z&Y Peking Duck’s website. Chef Han was not immediately available to provide additional comment.
