If you’ve ever been to RASA in Burlingame, don’t be alarmed if you try to return and you find that it is closed. This is only temporary, as the restaurant will reopen in June as SAFFRON. When it does, expect a completely transformed design and a menu that fuses the old with the new.

Owner and Executive Chef Ajay Walia has decided to reintroduce the RASA space as a new SAFFRON location. Having opened SAFFRON in San Carlos nearly 20 years ago, Walia has found that the restaurant’s soul-satisfying comfort and heritage Indian cooking are what continues to make it a success after all these years.

SAFFRON will maintain some influences of RASA. While the former focuses on Northern Indian cuisine, the latter is known for its Southern Indian influences. Therefore, some of RASA’s best dishes, such as the Bombay Sliders, will remain on the menu.

There will still be a full bar with unique cocktails such as Aam Sutra, Thyme Me Up, Indian Air Conditioning, and the Maharani. When you walk into this future SAFFRON location, expect a more spacious mid-century dining space. Larger tables will encourage sharing, while better soundproofing and additional space will create a more intimate setting among guests.
