Earlier this year we revealed that local restaurateur Phil Chen, who owns SoMa bars Woodbury and Alchemist Bar & Lounge, was working on a new project in lower Nob Hill called Members Only. Well, it looks like everyone is a member at this new establishment, which opened doors late this month.

Located on the main level of the former Saratoga restaurant and bar at 1000 Larkin St., Members Only is a cocktail bar and supper club that offers full-service dinner until 11 p.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends. From raw seafood (oysters, ahi, salmon tartare) to hearty mains (steak frites, grilled salmon, burgers) and small plates, there is something to satisfy everyone’s mood.

You’ll definitely not want to miss out on the $1.50 oyster happy hour or the secret menu item that involves luging a sidecar of brandy through the bone of their chimichurri-drizzled bone marrow. The night doesn’t quite end there, as you’ll want to head down the stairs to the underground Finders Keepers lounge.

The oddities-adorned space is designed by creative director Sydni Downs and inspired by the Haight’s “Loved to Death” shop. Expect blue velvet couches, white marble cocktail tables, artwork, framed insects, taxidermy, and a cabinet that invites guests to leave a handwritten secret on a scroll in exchange for a stranger’s.

Both spaces offer a total of 12 cocktails created by beverage director Candice Jae. Some cocktails are served in both bars, while others are exclusive to their level. Rounding out the all-female management team is director of operations Candice Shaub.
