What Now San Francisco reached out to the restaurant’s new owner, Tsering Choedup, to inquire about the acquisition, but he could not provide additional information before the time of publication.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the concept, “Café Tibet is the first Tibetan family-owned Tibetan restaurant located in downtown Berkeley,” according to the eatery’s website.

Its former owner, “Chef Samten Choedon was born in Tibet but she grew up in Dharamsala, India where she ran a popular Tibetan restaurant, Shangri-La for over a decade. Chef Choedon moved to Berkeley in 1992 and started working at San Francisco’s landmark Stars restaurant before opening her own business, Cafe Tibet in 1999,” the statement continues.

According to the permit application, “business will continue as before.”
