Plans have been submitted to the city as early as last summer for a full-service restaurant with a coffee bar serving brunch, lunch, and dinner. In November of last year a building permit was issued for tenant improvements to a ground floor unit near the corner of 9th Avenue and Clinton Lane.

Zocalo Coffeehouse applied for its beer and wine license at this Oakland address this week. That said, it’s likely that their latest restaurant will be ready to open by the beginning of summer. Representatives for Zocalo could not be reached for comment.

Zocalo Coffeehouse was founded by Sara Ubelhart, whose Louisville, Kentucky upbringing serves as the foundation for her business. In addition to hospitality and teamwork, Zocalo’s focus on responsibility means that their small-batch coffees are locally roasted while supporting and protecting the producers from which the beans are sourced.
