Yuji is a new restaurant popping up at 1700 Post St. in Japantown. According to a pending California beer and wine license, Yuji is to take over Suite K which previously was home to OzaOza. Hirohiko Sato, who currently operates Izakaya Mayumi in Richmond, confirmed his upcoming plans for Yuji.

Though he couldn’t divulge too many details about Yuji, saying that the menu is still being conceptualized, Sato suggests that it would almost be like an omakase-style restaurant. He made it clear, however, that this was still something he was thinking about. Omakase is a Japanese restaurant concept in which the customer leaves it up to the chef to serve whatever they want to prepare.
When asked if he had an idea of when Yuji would finally open, Sato joked “I would like to know too,” explaining that it was up to the city and that their permits are still in the process of being approved. Based on this information, we might not expect to see a grand opening until 2022.
For now, those who are intrigued to try out Yuji can get a taste of what Sato has to offer at Izakaya Mayumi, where he specializes in sushi, sashimi, and various dishes made with fresh uni. We’re sure to expect the same high-quality flavor at Yuji when it’s finally ready to make its debut.
