If you don’t know what a “Puffle” is, you certainly will soon. The latest dessert craze is about to find its way to the Livermore Outlets later this year.
For those of you yet to try one, a “Puffle” is simply a puffy waffle cone with ice cream. Also referred to as egg waffles, eggettes, and Hong Kong waffles, Puffles have been exploding in popularity on Instagram thanks to their fluffy, aesthetically appealing design. The dessert first began in Hong Kong, where it was known as gai daan jai, or egg cake. Initially, the puffy egg-waffles were enough on their own to make for a killer snack, but some innovative restaurateurs decided to wrap the waffle up into a cone and put some ice cream and toppings in it – and the Puffle was born.
The recent craze for the fluffy snack is relatively new. The Puffle as we know it today appears to have begun back in 2015 in Santa Ana California. Unlike the traditional waffle cone, which is hard and crunchy, a Puffle cone is much closer to a freshly baked waffle – warm, airy, and with just the slightest hint of crispness.
If all this Puffle talk is making you hungry, you’re in luck. Puffles Inc, a brand new dessert shop that specializes in ice cream and puffy egg waffles, is scheduled to open up at 4537 Livermore Outlets Drive later this year. According to the lease application, the store is preparing to open by the end of December.
Puffles is owned and operated by Leslie Pham, who ran an extremely successful pop-up store where she first launched her signature Puffles. Her Puffles pop-up offered Chocolate, Vanilla, and Matcha flavored waffles with a wide assortment of ice cream and toppings.
