A pending zoning clearance found in Oakland public records tipped us off to activity at 460 8th St. involving Sante Adarius Rustic Ales (SARA), who finally announced today that they are indeed taking over the space currently home to The Trappist.
“We are rebranding the space as the Sante Adairius Oakland Arbor, but we still want the space to feel similar to The Trappist given its long history as a legendary beer bar. I am hopeful we can open at the beginning of April,” co-owner Adair Paterno tells What Now San Francisco, adding that their opening date is dependent on ABC licensing.
Until then, they will make some minor cosmetic changes to the space when they take ownership next month. Carrying on the legacy set forth by The Trappist, SARA hopes to continue the tradition of serving world class beer within an overall matchless experience.
Paterno and Tim Clifford have owned and operated SARA for almost a decade, with locations in Capitola and Santa Cruz. This takeover to establish their third location is one that is close to their hearts. Having previously lived in Oakland, they recall a time when they anxiously awaited the opening of The Trappist while it was still under construction.
“The Trappist has become known the world over for its care and attention to beer. Its owners, Aaron and Adriana, have become dear friends over the years, and when they presented this opportunity to us we were humbled to say the least. Aaron did most of the beautiful work inside the building himself, and they both leave us a legacy and a space that we are honored to steward into its next life,” SARA writes in their announcement.
