According to a recent beer and wine license application, Roche Winery is planning to begin brewing at 1016 Railroad Avenue in Novato. The spot is currently home to Indian Valley Brewing — a “three-barrel nano-brewery in Marin County offering eight different beers” — and nearby establishments include Dr. Insomniac’s, Grazie Italian restaurant, and Las Guitarras Mexican food restaurant.
Co-Owner Brendan Roche tells What Now San Francisco that Roche Winery intends to start custom brewing under its own label at Indian Valley Brewery, and is “just in the stages of applying for a permit to do so.”
He adds, “[I’m] just letting my wine-making team get creative and give brewing a try.”
For readers who are unfamiliar with the business, Roche Winery currently operates a winery and flagship tasting room at 22097A Bonness Road in Sonoma and another tasting room in downtown Sonoma at 122 West Spain Street — where they “offer daily barrel tastings, indoor and outdoor wine tasting bars, light bites, and a shaded outdoor tasting patio with fireplaces.”
The company’s website provides an introduction to its winemaking practice: Winemaker Michael Carr shares, “Knowing the family’s lands, our unique growing conditions and changing weather patterns…all of these are fundamental.”
Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to provide a more accurate description of Roche Winery’s plans for the facility. A previous version of this article implied that Roche Winery would be opening a client-facing storefront.
