According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the “combination restaurant and Japanese bathhouse” Onsen is slated to reopen in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
Located inside a former auto shop at 466 Eddy Street, the eatery is neighbor to establishments such as Black Cat Jazz Supper Club, Mộng Thu Cafe, and Sing Sing Sandwich Shop.
New owner Adam Wren tells What Now San Francisco, “Onsen bathhouse has been open previously under different ownership.” This was before the business shuttered in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
For readers who are unfamiliar with the business, Onsen introduces itself as offering “health-minded Japanese small plates, plus tea & sake, served in the cafe of a serene, modern spa.”
“Wren said the new menu will focus on Japanese cooking with California seasonal ingredients… like grilled skewers with meats, mushrooms, and in-season peppers. There are plans for a bento with rice, meats, and Japanese-style pickles for bathhouse patrons,” the Chronicle reports.
Onsen is slated to reopen in early 2025. Stay tuned for updates.
