Co-Founder Hanif Sadr tells What Now San Francisco that he plans to convert the downstairs of the two-story space into a catering kitchen for private dinners, exhibition receptions, and concert receptions. Before its residency at The Laundry, Komaaj actually operated as a catering company and held pop-up events throughout the Bay Area.
The upstairs will become a restaurant and market with a focus on specialty items sourced from Iranian producers in California —from wine to vinegar and pickles.
As far as the restaurant is concerned, Sadr plans to keep the dinner menu as-is but is introducing a lunch menu that will feature wraps and salads with a “Northern Iranian touch,” as well as plates like pomegranate chicken, and a few rice bowl options.
To drink, guests will be able to choose from Iranian and herbal teas, beer, and a selection of wine from Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, in addition to some local options.
Sadr shares that the interior is currently being designed and that the permit for the outdoor parklet is being finalized. He anticipates that the market will be open by the summer of 2023, and plans to open the restaurant later in the year. Stay tuned to the eatery’s Instagram page for additional updates.
