Pilot Light is taking over the former 3-Zero Cafe, the restaurant on the Half Moon Bay Airport property from which diners could watch planes come and go. Co-Owner Shoshana Wolff says that a soft opening will be held in a couple weeks, followed by an official grand opening in late February

Wolff adds that the menu will feature American-style breakfast and lunch dishes with worldly influences. The sample menu on their website teases items like Sourdough Waffles, Cajun Shakshuka, and a “$100 Veggie Burger” comprised of a housemade quinoa patty with spouts, cheese, pesto aioli and pickled onion on a freshly made bun.

Pilot Light is the next venture for Wolff and her husband, Sachin Chopra, who you may know as the owners of All Spice. Chopra’s Indian-inspired French California cuisine, coupled with Wolff’s next-level front-of-house service once earned All Spice a Michelin star.

Sadly, the Victoria-era home that housed All Spice in San Mateo will be demolished soon. SF Gate reports that a real estate developer bought the land that the house sits on and is moving forward with plans to build market-rate housing with underground parking.

Though they lament the loss of their original restaurant, Wolff and Chopra look forward to starting over with Pilot Light. “We are excited to bring something new to the Coastside and hope for a warm reception,” Wolff tells What Now San Francisco. If the reputation that All Spice has earned them is any indication, we’re sure Pilot Light’s success is about to take off.
