The Sichuan hot chicken sandwich has found a permanent home in Oakland.

Ok’s Deli has found a new home in Oakland. SF Chronicle reported this week that the sandwich pop-up will be moving into 3932 Telegraph Ave., where Saucy restaurant used to be before moving to Old Oakland

Owner Albert Ok (pronounced “oak”) tells the Chron that he hopes to debut the Ok’s Deli brick-and-mortar this summer. At that point, it will open as a takeout only space serving their signature sandwiches and sides. Since its founding in 2021, Ok’s Deli gained a following in the Bay Area for their inventive Asian-inspired sandwiches.

In addition to their Sichuan hot chicken sandwich, they’ve experimented with adding Asian flavors to common sandwiches and by turning classic dishes into hand-held meals. Their Spam Mi, for example, is a classic banh mi made with Spam lovers in mind. Everything on their menu is house-made, from the breads to the sauces. 

With the new restaurant, Ok hopes to expand the menu with traditional Italian deli sandwiches, which is a style he wants to serve simply because he enjoys it. This year, Ok’s Deli will be joining other pop-ups, such as Casa Borinqueña, by taking the bold and exciting leap into the brick-and-mortar world.
