Coming to Castro Valley Marketplace at 3295 Castro Valley Boulevard, the eatery will land near establishments such as Canyons Barbeque, Philz Coffee, and Seven Hills Baking Co.

The concept’s Chef-Owner, Jose “Cheo” Ortiz, tells the Journal that the “relocation was not motivated by public safety concerns or tanking business. He simply wants to make his day-to-day management of the restaurant easier. He is recovering from cancer; spending long hours at the restaurant plus commuting from his home in Castro Valley, where he moved to just under two years ago, has become more difficult.”

“I’ll be able to walk to the restaurant,” he shares.

The menu will remain largely consistent — think chicharrones de pollo, empanadillas, pollo encebollado — though from now on the mofongo might be limited to the weekends.

What Now San Francisco reached out to Ortiz for updates but he could not provide additional information before publication.

An opening date has not been announced yet.
