Bay Area-based restaurant Mumu Hot Pot is opening its first location in San Francisco. The eatery is moving into a spot at 2 Varela Avenue, not far from Stonestown shopping mall, and restaurant representative Pak Chin tells What Now San Francisco that it should open in spring 2023.
Mumu Hot Pot opened its first location in Pleasanton back in 2018 and has since expanded to Sunnyville and Foster City. Pak shares, in addition to the upcoming San Francisco spot, the company has an Emeryville outpost coming to 5616 Bay Street, as part of Bay Street Emeryville, “a diverse shopping, dining, and entertainment destination,” that’s predicted to open around October 2023.
For those who are unfamiliar with the concept, as the name suggests, Mumu Hot Pot specializes in hotpots — a popular dish throughout East and Southeast Asia where a metal pot of simmering broth is provided alongside an assortment of raw meats and vegetables, and diners cook the ingredients themselves by dipping them. The dish is typically shared, making Mumu Hot Pot original in its mini, personalizable hotpot approach.
Unlike previous Mumu Hot Pot locations, the San Francisco and Emeryville restaurant menus will feature a milk tea and a cocktail section, which are currently being developed.
