The Model Bakery, Napa Valley’s artisan bakery, will expand to the San Francisco East Bay with the opening of its fourth location at 1315 N. Main St. in Walnut Creek, CA. Offering its full line of products, including their English muffins, a coffee bar featuring Caffe Vita products, breakfast, brunch and lunch menus daily, craft beers and regional wines, The Model Bakery Walnut Creek plans to open mid-October, 2024.

Housed in the oldest commercial building in town, The Model Bakery Walnut Creek will have seating for 30 indoors, with a dozen additional seats on the outside patio. Designed by Richard Von Saal of Vonsaal Design Build in Napa, CA, the bakery features custom design elements including patina zinc artwork accents on the cabinets, tables and walls, iron and walnut display racks, and a grandiose chandelier composed of kitchen baking tools hovering over the round walnut slab family table. Von Saal’s aesthetic vision was to infuse the essence of classic European bakeries with an early American flair.
Known for the finest selection of fresh baked breads, pastries, delicious coffee drinks, sandwiches and more, The Model Bakery is also known for its English muffins, which have landed on Oprah’s Favorites list a record four times in 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021.
“We are very excited to be bringing The Model Bakery to Walnut Creek and the East Bay,” said proprietor Sarah Mitchell Hansen in a statment. “We’ve completely transformed the space into a classic bakery café and can’t wait to serve the local community our fresh baked, home-made goods.”
For nearly a century, The Model Bakery has been an integral part of the Napa Valley culinary scene, providing breads, pastries and coffee products at the original location on Main Street in St. Helena, their outpost at Oxbow Public Market in downtown Napa, the “Mini Model” location in Yountville, and now Walnut Creek. Proprietors Karen Mitchell and her daughter Sarah Mitchell Hansen specialize in artisan breads made with organic stone ground flours and the highest quality ingredients as well as a complete range of pastry products. With more than 17 varieties of breads in their daily baked repertoire, The Model Bakery offers a menu of options for consumers and commercial operations alike in Northern California.
