The initiative began all the way back in March 2019 when Lazy Dog announced that they intended open a new location in San Mateo. Mercury News reported at the time that plans were in place to open in early 2020, but the outbreak of a global pandemic evidently put those plans to rest. Until now, Lazy Dog has remained silent about their plans for San Mateo.
According to an on-sale general eating place license uncovered by What Now San Francisco, Lazy Dog has revived their plans for San Mateo and are moving forward with the new restaurant, becoming the fifth Lazy Dog to migrate to the Bay Area (Following Concord, Pleasanton, Fremont, and San Jose).
Inspired by a particularly languid black lab named Mattie, Lazy Dog was founded by restaurateur Christopher Simms back in 2003. Borrowing inspiration from a ski trip in Jackson Hole, Simms designed his restaurant to resemble a rocky mountain ski lodge.
Describing his food as “elevated comfort food”, Chris wants Lazy Dog to be all about comfort, about feeling like Mattie the Lab after a long day of fetching. Fortunately for San Mateo cynophilists (AKA Dog-Lovers), the restaurant also invites owners to bring their dogs with them and provides plenty of space for the pooches to play – the dogs even have their own menu.
Lazy Dog is preparing to open up their San Mateo location in Early 2022. Later restaurants are also expected open in 2022 in Florida, Georgia, and Colorado.
At the moment, Lazy Dog is looking to hire a general manager, executive chef, restaurant managers, and sous chefs. Working at Lazy Dog means working with fun, friendly and diverse fellow food lovers in an exciting, fast-paced setting and the ability to take advantage of many opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
