If you’re familiar with KoolFi, then you know all about their luscious Indian-inspired ice cream flavors such as Mango Lassi and Bombay Butterscotch with Cashew Toffee. Since the pandemic hit, KoolFi sold pints through local grocers and home delivery. But now with businesses opening back up, KoolFi is returning in a big way.

An announcement late last week shared the news that they are opening their flagship location at 559 MacArthur Blvd. in San Leandro. KoolFi began in 2018 by wives Priti Narayanan and Madhuri “Mads” Anji, who began making and selling small-batch ice cream in the East Bay.
Their flavors are heavily inspired by the spices, textures and fragrances prominent in Indian cuisine, which quickly put them on the Bay Area’s radar for best ice cream in the area. They also churn out common flavors like Pina Colada and “Fairy Glitter,” a limited-edition Pride flavor made with cake batter and rainbow sprinkles. The menu has both dairy and non-dairy options.
KoolFi tells San Francisco Chronicle that they aim to open by early summer. The brick-and-mortar is big enough to make the ice cream on-site and will also double as a cafe, which means the menu will expand to include items such as samosas and chai.
There is a lot on the to-do list to get the shop up and running, including a buildout and a paint job. Until then, you can always find KoolFi at a store near you. Check out koolficreamery.com.
