The North Financial District has been undergoing some serious changes lately. Back in December 2019, Google signed a deal to lease 190,000 square feet of space at One Maritime Plaza. Originally planning to move employees into the office in 2020, the unexpected outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic unfortunately put those plans on an indefinite hold.
Earlier this year in June, however, Google announced plans to begin opening their offices on a voluntary basis by the end of July. While it was reported at the time that Google would not require employees to confirm their vaccination status to return to work, that changed on July 28th when Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated in a blog post that Google would be mandating that all employees must be vaccinated before returning to the office. He also announced that Google would extend its voluntary work-from-home program to October 18th in order to give employees time to adjust.
While Google gears up to return to somewhat normalcy, it appears that they’ve tapped one of their usual partners to provide catering services for the new office. Guckenheimer ISS will be operating a new cafeteria on the 13th floor of One Maritime Place, teaming up with Google to provide an exclusive dining experience for nearby office workers.
Guckenheimer, acquired by ISS in 2017, is one of the country’s premier food service companies, crafting fresh and delicious dining experiences for leading companies around the country. Guckenheimer uses its food programs to nourish employees as well as increase workplace engagement by fostering spaces where food can be used as a way for people to connect with each other and their company culture.
Guckenheimer has already worked with Google in the past before, including running the food program at Google’s flagship office, The Googleplex. They run many of Google’s cafeterias, from San Mateo to Irvine. It is still unclear at the moment when the cafeteria will be operational for employees, but Google is expecting to end its remote-work program by the end of October.
