Flour + Water Pizzeria in the Mission District is going to close its doors next month in preparation for its new reincarnation as Yellow Moto Pizzeria. Owner David White told Eater SF this month: “The core concept is not going to change. We just want it to be a little bit more fun, less serious.”
The changes at 700 Valencia St. will be mostly aesthetic and in line with the pizzeria’s new name, which is inspired by White’s 1963 bright yellow Lambretta Italian scooter. Yellow Moto will still have the same antipasti, salads, pizzas, and soft serve created with the help of chef Oleg Sheyner, plus some new vegetable-forward additions.
There will also be a 20-seat dedicated bar space serving a cocktail menu designed by Enrique Sanchez. The changes are a result of White’s departure from Ne Timeas Restaurant Group (now known as Flour + Water Hospitality Group), which founded iconic pasta restaurant Flour + Water in 2009.
White was one of the restaurant’s original partners and helped create the pizza-focused offshoot in 2019. Since his resignation from the group in 2020, White has retained the pizzeria and aims to cultivate its own identity.
“The existing brand it just felt a bit too serious for me,” he told Eater, adding that Yellow Moto will be a more inclusive “come as you are”-type space for the community. Look forward to its reopening in mid-July. Visit www.flourandwaterpizzeria.com for more information.
