Long-awaited fine dining restaurant Osito finally has an opening date. SF Chronicle reports that the restaurant is slated to open on October 15th, 2021, at 2875 18th Street in the Mission, on the ground floor of The Madelon apartment complex.

Chef and owner Seth Stowaway, who was formerly executive chef of the Bar Agricole Group, has been doing Osito pop-ups since 2019 in an attempt to sort out the menu during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it looks like he’s finally landed on a concept.

Everything at Osito will be cooked over a fire, and the restaurant will offer a $295 tasting menu, reportedly featuring 23 seasonal dishes. Originally, Stowaway planned to serve guests at one long, communal table, but COVID-19 threw a wrench into those plans. Now, it looks like Osito will have seven separate tables, each of which will be served at the same time.

As for the design, expect a woodsy feel, with lots of dark, reclaimed wood, brass chandeliers, and a sugar pine-clad dining room. SF Chronicle reports that Studio Terpeluk (the design group behind Liholiho Yacht Club) is responsible for the design.

You might think a tasting menu isn’t your thing, and for $295 a head, you might be right. But if you’re a foodie looking to treat yourself (or someone else), Osito could be your ticket. We don’t know if anyone has coined the term “food glam” yet, but if such a thing exists, Osito is where it’s at.
