Omakase Restaurant Group’s Dumpling Time will open its fifth location on August 4th, 2022 on Fourth Street in Berkeley. Like its sister restaurants in San Francisco and San Jose, Dumpling Time (11 Division Street), Dumpling Time Express (55 Division Street), Dumpling Time Thrive City (191 Warriors Way), and Dumpling Time Santana Row (378 Santana Row), Dumpling Time Berkeley captures Asian dumpling traditions.
The menu celebrates handmade dim sum inspired by Chinese traditions and made with local California ingredients. Dumplings are filling-forward and made using premium products with an emphasis on flavor. Guests can find fan-favorite items from the other locations on Dumpling Time Berkeley’s menu such as the crispy Seafood, Pork or Chicken Gyoza; pan-seared Chicken or Pork Bao; Shrimp Har Gow; and Xi’an Dumplings made using owner Kash Feng’s family recipe. For customers seeking allergen friendly foods, a generous selection of vegetarian dishes like vegetable dumplings and vegan fried rice allow for expanded choice for all diners.
Dumpling Time Berkeley offers an array of beer, California wines and sake. The offerings feature both local flavors, like Berkeley’s Hello Friend IPA, with international beverages too, such as a variety of Japanese-made sakes. Non-alcoholic beverages include an extensive tea selection ranging from light, fragrant Chrysanthemum Buds to the richer flavors of Da Hong Pao Oolong with its notes of plum and red dates.
Omakase Restaurant’s design team, helmed by Aya Yanagisawa, has transformed the 5th Street location, thanks to a massive renovation of the former retail space. The sleek interior boasts a brightly tiled dumpling room that offers diners the opportunity to observe dumplings being made by hand. Elsewhere in the restaurant, the design team emphasized the indoor/outdoor flow of the space through the use of full length windows. The airy feeling of the interior makes for a seamless transition to the generous outdoor patio area that has seating for 30. Textured wood and greenery lend to the general feeling of a breezy, urban oasis. A separate entrance is available to streamline takeout and delivery service from the restaurant.
