American fast-casual chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is expanding in the Bay Area — bringing made-to-order bowls, burritos, and tacos to a new outpost in Emeryville.

According to The E’Ville Eye, the franchise is opening at a custom-built space at 5761 Christie Avenue, taking over a former Jamba Juice space near establishments such as Nothing Bundt Cakes, TOGO’s Sandwiches, and Trader Joe’s.
What Now San Francisco reached out to Chipotle’s Chief Development Officer, Stephen Piacentini, but he was unable to provide additional information before the time of publication.
Nevertheless, existing Chipotle locations throughout the Bay Area — and across the globe — provide a blueprint of what’s to come.
Founded back in 1993 in Denver, Chipotle had 16 Colorado restaurants before McDonald’s became a major investor in 1998. Now, the franchise operates more than 450 outposts throughout California, and over 3,000 globally throughout the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, and France.
The Christie Avenue outpost is slated to open this fall.
