Carbon Grill was a popular Korean BBQ restaurant in the Inner Richmond. Founded in 2016 by Edward Dang, Carbon Grill was forced to close last year in response to complications from the global pandemic. Nearly a year has passed since Carbon Grill’s closure, and the plans for its future have remained unknown until now.

According to a liquor license application uncovered by What Now San Francisco, Carbon Grill appears to be gearing up for a revival. Owner Edward Dang, who operated the restaurant as CGSF LLC with Wilson Ho and Tedman Cheng, has transferred his on-sale beer and wine eating place license to Chayanisa Leewattana, who will be operating as Fahsai LLC.

Carbon Grill became famous for its delicious, all-you-can-eat style barbecue. Inspired by the recent BBQ craze that swept LA, Dang envisioned his restaurant as a “pan-Asian” riff on Korean BBQ.

In 2018, Dang and his friends expanded and founded Lost & Found Cocktail Bar, a restaurant and bar themed after landmarks and destinations in San Francisco. While Carbon Grill has closed, Lost & Found remains open for business.

Not much is known at the moment about the future of Carbon Grill, as unfortunately Chayanisa was unable to be reached for comment. The new license is still registered to do business as “Carbon Grill”, but there are no other businesses registered under Fahsai LLC to give an indication of what to expect from the relaunch. Carbon Grill will be preserving its 852 Clement Street location. Considering that the licenses were only transferred on August 23rd, it’s safe to say that the team is still very early into the process.
