Bi-Rite Cafe, a cornerstone at Civic Center Plaza, has been closed lately and apparently has no plans to reopen anytime soon. Taking its place is a new concept called Assembly, brought to us by event food and beverage experts Best Beverage Catering (BBC), according to a pending ABC license found in state public records.
BBC has confirmed this takeover, adding that Assembly is due to open “really soon.” The new concept is both a cafe and a beer garden, focusing on curations from local vendors and chefs . “It’s really a place created for the Bay, by the Bay,” Suzanne Kavert tells What Now San Francisco, adding that they want to create a space to showcase local artisans who don’t really have a brick-and-mortar of their own.
“With the Civic Center being in the heart of San Francisco, we really want to create a community-based social dining space that would appeal to the masses,” says Kavert, who is the VP of Sales and Marketing at BBC. That, of course, should be a walk in the park for BBC, who have national clout as leading event food and beverage caterers in the industry.
BBC works with Outsidelands, BottleRock, Coachella, and other major events and festivals across the country. They also offer food and beverage management for major venues and clubs, as well as beverage catering for corporate events, fundraisers, and weddings.
With experience serving some of the best events in the world, we wouldn’t doubt that Assembly is going to be one of the best new hangouts in San Francisco. While the outdoor cafe will remain relatively the same, Kavert says that there will be some minor aesthetic improvements to refresh the space. Keep an eye on Civic Center Plaza for Assembly’s upcoming debut.
