Berserk Burger is coming soon to 2026 University Ave. in Berkeley. The new spot will hopefully begin serving hungry customers by the end of the summer, according to owner Cal Kepner.

Berserk Burger will specialize in Angus-cut ground beef smash burgers, served as singles, doubles or triples, in a style similar to In-N-Out. Berserk will take their burgers to the next level, however, by offering different add-ons such as fried eggs, caramelized onions and more.

The new restaurant will also be known for their West Coast-style chopped cheese sandwiches. A popular bodega sandwich found on the streets of New York, a chopped cheese is an awesome mix of ground beef and melted cheese served on hero roll. We can’t wait to see how Berserk adds their own spin on this.

Kepner says that the menu will be fairly simple but beyond the burgers and chopped cheeses, we can expect shoestring french fries and signature milkshakes. He aims to be able to soft open within three to four weeks, when he plans to offer takeout while the entire building gets refaced.

By early October, Kepner hopes to be able to open up the restaurant for indoor dining. For updates, follow @berserkburgerberk on Instagram.
