The Asian cuisine-inspired bakery has found a home for its innovative pastries in Grand Lake.

Boutique pop-up bakery Bake Sum has found a permanent home in Oakland. The Asian cuisine-inspired bakery has been around for about a year, most recently operating out of Berkeley’s shared commercial kitchen, the Bread Project.

The bakery’s new space, at 3249 Grand Avenue in Oakland, was formerly Wild Rabbit Bakery, and is expected to open this summer, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

“We feel abundantly blessed to be able to take this next step to not only invest in ourselves but also in an historically diverse community like Oakland – home to several of our crew members,” the Bake Sum team wrote in a statement on Instagram.

Built and operated by a team of Asian Americans (and Bay Area natives, might we add), the menu at Bake Sum reflects the ideas and inspirations of the people who keep the place running. Matchamisu cake, gojuchang sourdough bread, and mochi bites are a few staples, and reportedly a Hawaiian-inspired loco moco danish, a vegan char siu bao, and other innovative pastries will also be up for grabs at the new spot.

There’s no denying that the Bake Sum team are a talented bunch of bakers — the bakery’s Instagram comments alone will prove that. But you should really experience the magic for yourself. Head to their new home this summer to pick up a box of delicious, perfectly crafted pastries.
